    What is the process to obtain a Planning Permission?

    The process is quite challenging for an ordinary person since it requires the knowledge and expertise of a professional. It involves technical skills and knowledge in relation to both local and national planning policies. You would need to know how to negotiate based on the design, the current situation, the presentation, the policies, and many more. Not knowing the technicalities, can lead to non-approval of the application.

    What is the assessment process?

    The assessment involves a two-step process. The first step would involve an external discussion, wherein your application will be presented to your neighbors and to utility companies. The second step would involve the internal processing of the application by the planning officer wherein the latter would further conduct a study involving the application.

    How long does it usually take before I will be granted the Planning Permission?

    It depends on which type of application is involved:

    • Applications involving the household and other minor planning applications – within 8 weeks.
    • For large or controversial structures and developments – within 13 weeks.
    • If the application involves developments that affect the environment – it will be subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment and is usually decided upon within 16 weeks.

    What is the effectivity period of the Planning Permission?

    The planning permission notice allows you a leeway of 3 years from the date it is granted, within which to proceed with the building of the structure unless otherwise provided.
