Weston General (MRI)

Weston General Hospital

This project was part of larger redevelopment of the campus to provide a new Integrated Urgent Care Centre including the provision of a new-build Accident and Emergency Unit, MRI/CT unit, assessment suite, HDU (minors and majors), admissions and triage suite, and a GP referral centre. Both the structure and cladding of the building were constructed from FSC Approved timber. The site was situated on the edge of Weston town. Both the A+E and MRI units were conceived as (soft) timber clad boxes with green roofs to mediate between the existing (hard) brick and concrete hospital buildings and the surrounding countryside.

The project was designed to achieve BREEAM 'Excellent' and was the first completely timber clad/framed building of its type in the UK.
